Justice at Hershey’s Students to Address Lancaster Church Congregation

Students continue Kitchen Table Tour of Central PA with Sunday church service

LANCASTER, PA—At 11 a.m. Sunday, August 28, Hershey’s J-1 student workers will attend the Sunday service at Lancaster’s Faith Tabernacle Church of God in Christ as the latest stop of their Kitchen Table Tour of Central Pennsylvania.

During the service, the students will have a chance to address the congregation about their fight to end Hershey’s exploitation of J-1 student workers, to win back the $3,000-6,000 they paid for false promises of a cultural exchange program, and to turn the 400 jobs they filled into living wage jobs for local workers. Afterward, Pastor Gerald Simmons will host a lunch and lead the students in a cultural exchange with members of his congregation.

The Justice at Hershey’s Kitchen Table Tour is a series of conversations between the students and ordinary Pennsylvanians around the state about how the corporate greed of companies like Hershey has affected them both, and how they can join together in a common fight for dignity, rights, and respect at work.

The tour began on August 24 with a pair of dinners in Hershey hosted by community members, and continued on August 25 with a rally for unemployed workers in Williamsport, PA.
